Most reliable voice messaging Android apps

It?s great to hear from friends, but let?s face it -- no one likes listening to voicemail. Most messages are just a drawn out way of saying ?hey, call me back!? And managing voice messages can be a time consuming process we often skip in lieu of simply returning that missed call. While text messages have become a preferred medium for extended conversations, many chat tools offer extra perks for sharing media and video conferencing. So when Facebook added voice messages to their Messenger chat tool, we thought, finally! The perfect balance between text and voice. But Facebook Messenger isn?t the only Android app that?s adding convenience to the daunting task of exchanging voice messages. Here are a few other VoIP apps worth trying out.

One of the more popular chat tools, WhatsApp lets you send and receive messages, media, video messages and audio notes. It?s an easy way to communicate with one or many friends, treating every media type the same as a text chat. That means you can leave an audio note for a friend to pick up when they have a moment, alongside text, image and video-sharing. Centralizing this activity in a single app makes communication a far less tedious task, which means you can always keep the conversation going. WhatsApp for Android also lets you share your location and contacts, and keeps a running history of your chats. If you miss a message while offline, WhatsApp will save them until you reconnect.

Line is another popular Android app for voice and audio chat, similar to Facebook in that it treats your contacts as a social network. You can even follow users outside your contacts to receive updates from celebrities and brands. Also similar to Facebook, Line is accessible on your laptop computer so you can retrieve messages on just about any device. Known for voice calls, Line enables free conversations using a WiFi connection or your mobile data plan. Line is one of the more expressive apps, with stickers and emoticons for the true creatives. There?s also support for group messaging, location-sharing, and an event Timeline.

A top VoIP app, Tango?s recently added the ability to send audio messages just as easily as you would a text message. This feature is icing on the cake when you look at all the other options that come with Tango?s Android app, including free video and voice calls, as well as text, photo and video messages. Tango video messages are quite robust, too, with personalization options that include animations. Like Facebook Messenger?s new voice messages, Tango messages are accessible on the PC. You can use Tango on Android smartphones and tablets, over 3G, 4G and WiFi, and connect immediately with existing contacts.

While Tikl isn?t a voice message app, it does enable voice messaging by turning your phone into a Walkie Talkie. This popular app lets you speak to one or many friends with the touch of a button, no extra setup or configuration needed. Tikl?s integrated with your phone?s Contact list and Facebook network, so it could be a viable alternative to Facebook Messenger if you want quick messaging capabilities. The app supports instant messaging for text chats as well, and provides immediate delivery confirmations for sent messages. Using data connections only, Tikl won?t take up any of your voice minutes or SMS allowances from your phone plan.
