Joan Geiszler-Ludlum of Wilmington has been named to a 12-member task force on the study of marriage, appointed by the head of the Episcopal Church in the United States.

A Wilmington lawyer and certified mediator, Geiszler-Ludlum is chancellor, or legal adviser, to the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina.

Her appointment to the church task force was announced last week by Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schor and by the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, president of the Episcopal Church's house of delegates.

The task force, composed of theologians and experts in church history, liturgy and canon law, is expected to report to the church's general convention in 2015.

Geiszler-Ludlum had previously served as legal adviser to a church panel that drew up a proposed church rite for same-sex unions.
