As your daughter, I love to rummage through these snapshots because they tell a tale of happiness, support, spontaneity, and even a little bit of ridiculousness - which no marriage would be complete without. I have been told the story behind each picture so many times it has become part of my own fabric, part of me, and what I aspire to in a relationship. While you are smiling in all of them, I know that you both worked tirelessly to continue to complement each other. To grow together, instead of apart. To accept each other's flaws and faults, and to find humor in situations, instead of anger or blame.
Your smiles are photographic proof of all the time, dedication, and laughter that you two have poured into each other over the years, months, seconds, and days of your time together. As your child, there are no happier moments for me except the ones that I get to spend with you two in person.
I hope that today, in your 40th year together, you know how thankful I am for both of you and how much I love each of you as individuals and a couple. I have loved being your daughter and being able to call you my parents (although maybe not in my teenage years when my friends thought you both were cooler than me - and with good reason). You have both given me something to work toward as a partner and parent, and shown me that even though life doesn't always work out how we plan, it always turns out okay in the end. And sometimes, if you are part of a fantastic family, it turns out even better than you could have ever expected.
I can't wait to celebrate the next 10 years with you.
All my love,
GFI
