Malaysia Open to get elevation as Premier Super Series event in 2014 ? Badminton Feature

Badminton in Malaysia is proceeding in the right direction as the biggest event of the court, Malaysia Open Super Series, has got elevation and now it will be one of the five Premier Super Series events from 2014 edition.

This up-gradation indicates that Badminton World Federation (BWF), the world?s governing body of this sport, seems completely satisfied with the offerings and impressive organising plans of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) which is the governing body for this sport in Malaysia.

Getting the level of a Premier Super Series tournament is nothing short of a mega achievement and the whole credit goes to the efforts of BAM that grabbed the attention of sponsors and played a vital role in taking the standard to this level.

BAM is confident that the upcoming Malaysia Open Super Series 2013, from 15-20 January, will serve as a perfect testing ground for the Premier Super Series event in 2014. The BWF found Malaysia a perfect ground for the commencement of a Premier Super Series tournament and the first edition after getting this status will be held in 2014.

Officials of BAM believe that it will pull attention of all top players in the world as the lucrative prize money and precious ranking points are the main driving forces to bring shuttlers to compete in Malaysia.

Currently, Malaysia Open is one of the seven Super Series Events that are played in a year under the supervision of BWF. From 2014, it will become one of the five Premier Super Series tournaments which will definitely help Malaysian shuttlers to get more opportunities to prove their worth.

Datuk Al Amin Majid, who is BAM?s deputy president, is optimistic that the upcoming Malaysia Open will serve as a testing ground for Premier Super Series event. He is quite optimistic that all top players from around the world will complete in this tournament which is one of the most prestigious events in the arena of Badminton.

He stated, ?We are very happy that Malaysia has finally earned the right to host a Premier event from 2014 onwards and next year?s Malaysian Open will be a good testing ground for us. Although the total prize money will remain at US$400,000, it is still one of the biggest for a Super Series event and we?re looking forward to all the top players coming here.?

He further said, ?I?d like to think that Malaysia is one of the best host in terms of hospitality and we should have no problems attracting the top players.?

Majid said that in the upcoming Malaysia Open, five courts will be used in the qualifying round and first round which will help in completing the matches in timely fashion. From the second round of the tournament, four courts are expected to be used. This will be the last Malaysia Open as a Super Series tournament as the next edition of 2014 will be a Premier Super Series event.

The deputy president of BAM takes pride in saying that Malaysia is one of the best countries to organise such prestigious tournaments when it comes to show hospitality.

Considering all these things, many experts think that giving Premier Super Series standard to Malaysia Open is a right step as the organisers deserve it by having a proven track record of making this tournament quite successful in the past.
